So we have just arrived from Kazbegi day trip. I love to do
this tour all year around, in summer, in spring, in autumn and especially in
winter, when there are just few travelers around.
See the tour details here: Day trip to Khevi province – Kazbegi
In early morning the shower started pouring. Before the trip
I checked the weather forecast for Georgian Military highway, Gudauri and
Kazbegi: it said full day rain and minus 8 degrees Celsius at the skiing
resort! WOW, how is it possible to rain when there is 8 degrees - that was my
question. I washed the jeep salon only inside and we started the day.
For Rachel from Singapore it was quite unusual to drive on 2000
m. above sea level through the curvy serpentine roads in snow. She screamed
when she saw the sliding cars before and after us, but her husband Gerrit from
Holland was pretty happy seeing the white slopes of Caucasus Mountains. Frozen
tracks along the road, the fresh snow, white icy road, white sky and milky air
involved us in the mystery. We stood on
the top of Gergeti Mount (2200 m above sea level) in front of the Gergeti Holy
Trinity Church 14th c and listened to the magic silence around us.
When the frost took the power, I decided to take Rachel and Gerrit inside the
church. We stepped inside the church by pushing the heavy chained door. It was
nicely warm inside. The fire burned in fireplace and in semi-darkness I heard
the prayer. There was a lonely candle
and the young monk in black was reading the book slowly. I had the feeling I was
on the top of universe.
After we drove back to Kazbegi, hot lunch was served in the
village restaurant. Pork Barbeque, Khachapuri (the pizza shape cheese pie) and
Georgian lemon tea brought us back to the real life. It was a wonderful day.
Many thanks for such thrilling experience. I think this trip in winter has more
adventure character and it is a special day trip for nature & jeep tour lovers.
